Most people will at some time suffer from back pain. Once you are able to identify the pain
as more than likely to come from a mechanical problem then your next course of action
should be to learn “self care”. Self care is important because it helps to avoid dependency,
addresses the cause and helps you to avoid chasing the pain.
Self care involves stabilisation of the spine and also what is termed spine sparing. Spine
sparing is all about the ability to move more efficiently and safely, thus increasing the
likelihood of remaining active more often.
The “Reverse Lunge” is a great example of a self care method in learning how to move in a
spine sparing manner. It will assist in learning to get up and down from the floor or a chair
without slumping forward. The key to a good reverse lunge is to be able to keep the torso
stable and also tall and wide. The EP Group practitioners are experts in spine sparing
technique’s and can help you to learn this and other self care techniques.
