Role + Specialty:
Exercise Physiologist and Director
I like working with a range of clients and pathologies but I think my strengths are in guiding people through recovery from mid to lower back complaints and hip issues and persistent pain cases where clients have been given a ‘bum steer’ from other health professionals in relation to the therapeutic benefits of movement. I like the challenge of teaching people how to have fun with movement again. It’s fun to have fun, but you have to know how! – Dr Seuss
The reason you became an EP:
In working as a PT, I realised I much preferred helping people improve their physical function after illness or injury, rather than helping them fit into the wedding dress they had bought 6 months in advance, hoping they would fit into it when the day came. I was much better at it too! It was a no-brainer.
Favorite motivational quote of all time:
“In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.” — Abraham Maslow
Career background and what led you to be here today?
My overarching goal in pursuing a career in Exercise Physiology and in running an Exercise Physiology business is to help people find a better version of themselves. The EP Group is a vehicle that allows me to do that on a number of levels.
Favorite movement or exercise and why?
I’d like to say I enjoy surfing, but in reality, I’m in the stage of the learning process where I’m still enduring it! Hence, a more accurate answer is trail running. Anything that combines movement and nature never fails to put a smile on my face.
Your movement routine of choice and why?
Due to a young family and escalating work commitments, there was a period of a couple of years where I was finding it difficult to lock into a consistent exercise routine. My body started to stiffen up and the frequency of little niggles presenting whenever I climbed out of my exercise ‘comfort zone’ significantly increased. That prompted my exploration of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization. I can’t rate it highly enough. DNS completely changed my trajectory. It keeps me young(er)!
What do clients like about you?
I listen, I work hard to make things fun, I try to empower clients with knowledge and assist them to attribute their ‘wins’ to the time and energy they have invested in the process.
