Is your waist circumference the source of your low back pain?

The relationship between low back pain and obesity remains controversial. A recent study carried out on over 300 male and female participants over a six year period showed that waist circumference alone was the strongest determinant of low back pain, particularly in women. This correlation was predominantly evident in middle-aged women. Since waist circumference is a strong predictor of both visceral and subcutaneous fat, the waist circumference remains a superior measurement of obesity. At the EP Group, we practice a holistic approach of care, focussing on chronic determinants of pain. Not only do we treat the cause of pain, but provide long-term pain prevention and relief. Come in and get measured up and see if the size of your waist is affecting your back and we’ll show you what you can do about it.
