Are your friends and family qualified to help you ‘tame your pain’?

Is a friend or family member qualified to help you ‘tame your pain’?

This might sound like a controversial question if your friends or family members are not qualified health professionals; in this context, however, the answer is a resounding YES . . . . . . . but probably not in the way you have imagined. Friends and family are overqualified when it comes to providing the most underrated of expertise: SUPPORT. Just like any target worth pursuing, if your health goals are challenging, enlisting the support of your ‘team’ can make the difference when it comes to your level of success.

Your ‘team’ often knows you body as well as you do, and whether you like it or not, they often ride the highs and particularly the lows of taming your pain with you. Hence, although your health is a very personal thing, it is worth investing the time to share your goals and let them know how they can help you achieve them.

It might be that they can provide a trigger to remind you to exercise, they might want to do the exercises with you, prepare you some healthier food or it might just be as simple as a friendly phone call every once in a while to see how you’re progressing.

Any of these interactions are invaluable. Put your ‘team’ together today and get started. You might even find that there are some goals that you can share, giving you an opportunity to repay the support they provide you!
