FAQs

How does your process work?

It’s not complicated, but it is based on the latest research, our intimate understanding of the mechanism behind your symptoms and world’s best practice treatment of your specific condition.

Our RE hab process follows the progression below:

  • RE ASSURE: We educate you about your condition, help you draw your focus to helpful information and filter out what is not important.  We help you focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t and provide you with tangible hope and an achievable plan.
  • RE ACTIVATE: ‘Resting until you feel better’ and ‘being guided by pain’ and ‘avoiding activities that hurt’ are misnomers.  We aim to give you a positive experience with movement in your first consultation and help you reacquaint yourself with its therapeutic benefits.
  • RE store ANTIFRAGILITY:  We can help you trust your body again. We aspire to return you to thoughtless, fearless, relaxed movement and prepare you for anything life throws at you.
How is this different from physiotherapy, chiropractic or osteopathy?

As opposed to passive treatment or manual therapy, our methods are categorised as an active treatment because we need your participation and effort. The treatment programs we prescribe rely on you completing the exercises and therapeutic movements to improve your condition or decrease your level of pain. Your result is directly proportional to your level of effort. The more effort you put in, the more you understand your condition, the less you need to see us and the greater power you possess to self-manage your condition going forward.

What happens in an assessment consultation?

Your Exercise Physiologist will listen to your story, identify your ‘why’ and help you crystalise your goals before taking you through a range of assessment items to determine a baseline from which to chart your improvement. The tests utilised will be specific to your condition and relevant to how it is affecting your daily life.  The second part of the assessment is spent helping you identify the ‘hardest thing you do well’ as this represents the starting point of your program.

What should I wear to a consultation?

Wear loose or non-restricting clothes that you feel comfortable moving in.

Parking at our clinic

There is a range of parking options at our clinic; here are a few we suggest:

  • South Yarra Clinic (Ellis St) – there is free street parking for one hour or two hours immediately outside our clinic on Ellis St and free two hour parking on adjacent Wilson St and Bray St. Worst case scenario, Chapel St has one hour free parking or you can use the undercover Jam Factory parking at a $2 per hour.
Public Transport
  • South Yarra Clinic (Ellis St) – Take the Frankston Line to Hawksburn Station (500m walk)
Do you conduct home visits?

Yes, we conduct home visits in the inner suburbs of Melbourne for an additional fee. If you are interested in this service, please contact us to find out if you are within our service area.

Am I entitled to private health rebates for exercise physiology?

Exercise physiology is recognised as a valuable Allied Health discipline by the majority of private health funds, and our services attract rebates accordingly. The rebate amount varies depending on your chosen health fund and your level of cover.

Can I claim through Medicare for exercise physiology services?

Exercise Physiology services attract rebates through Medicare as part of a Team Care Arrangement. To be eligible for this Medicare program, you must be diagnosed with a chronic condition that has been ongoing for six months or is expected to continue for six months. Your GP can confirm your eligibility and enter you into a GP Management Plan and associated Team Care Arrangement program with up to 5 rebated Exercise Physiology consultations.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes, we offer a discount of 15% to pensioners and children under the age of 15 at our clinics. Discount consultations are conducted between 10am and 4pm.
